We all know that it is difficult these days to get new business. Everyone is competing to find new clients and grow their business. Whether you are building a business focused on real estate, plumbing, flowers, multi-level marketing, childcare, or any of the other multitude of businesses out there, it all comes down to the same thing. You need to find and keep clients.
Questions like this always come up. How do you market yourself, your skills, your product or your service? How can you set yourself apart from others? How can you find new clients? Public speaking provides a way you can do all of these things.
Through public speaking you can share your knowledge and experience with other people. When you deliver a presentation at a company, or within your community it is a great way to market yourself. When you market the presentation, you are also marketing yourself and your business. Even if people do not attend the presentation, your name is linked with being an expert in your field. By delivering a presentation, you are established as an expert in your field. This name recognition can be the boost you need for your business.
Delivering a business presentation will demonstrate your expertise. Using effective communication to share your experience will clearly demonstrate that you have knowledge in your subject area - knowledge that your audience is interested in. Take the time to customize the presentation for your specific audience and people will see that you are interested in finding solutions tailored for them.
When you deliver a presentation related to your business, it is also a great opportunity to network. While you present your skills and knowledge to new groups of people, you can establish yourself as an expert within your field at the same time. You will have time before and after the presentation to meet and talk with prospective clients and partners.
Public speaking is a personal form of marketing and advertising for your business. It sets you apart from your competition because you are able to go directly to your potential customers and offer information that they need. This establishes a relationship with your potential clients. People respect those that have the guts to get up in front of others and deliver a presentation.
Here are a few ways you can use public speaking to boost your business
1. Companies are look for speakers to provide informational sessions for their employees. Many companies like to provide lunchtime educational presentations. For example, you could deliver a presentation on financial planning. You could also offer to train a department on a specific topic. You could deliver time management seminar to an overworked department and explain how you use these skills in your own business. Seminars and company retreats are other avenues that you can use to provide informational presentations related to your business. Think of topics that local companies would be interested in and offer your services.
2. Deliver presentations to organizations within your community. You can approach business and professional organizations like the local Business Guild, men's or women's organizations like the Junior League, even children's groups like the Girl Scouts, your local church or temple, etc. through these organizations you will have a chance to meet new clients and develop relationships that could help your business grow. Look through the phone book and make a list of organizations in your area.
3. Offer to give presentations to parents groups at your local school. You could deliver a presentation on aspects of your business that would be of interest to parents (e.g. how to save money, how to raise kids, how to care for elderly parents, etc.)
4. How do I know what to present? Write a list of things about your business that would be interesting for other people to hear. Think about the questions you are asked when you are socializing and people hear about what you do for a living. Be sure to include topics that are of particular interest for you as they will be the easiest presentations to deliver. Basically what do you know or know about that others might find interesting or useful. Don't be afraid to include everything. For example, I know how to make a home budget using software that anyone can access online, meditate/stress reduction, do presentations, etc. you will be surprised at how many things you can come up with. Some things will appeal to your more than others and some will be clearly more marketable than others.
5. Then, make a list of places within your community where you can offer an informational presentation at no cost to the audience. Begin by offering your presentations at no cost and soon you will even be able to charge for the service at seminars and within companies.
Using these tips, you will give yourself opportunities to establish yourself as an expert, meet people who can help your business, and improve your public speaking skills all at the same time. You will also have an opportunity to have some fun.
